Viet Nam Womens Memorial Maquette dedication at WRNMMC on March 28, 2024. The Maquette is in the Hall of Heroes between the America Garage and the America Building where most of the clinics are located. Jan Southby is assisting CAPT Melissa Austin, WRNMMC Director, in cutting the ribbon that is being held by a senior nurse from each service.
The bronze study above the monumental Vietnam Woman’s Memorial located on the National Mall were sculpted by artist Glenna Goodacre. The effort to memorialize the contribution of woman in the Vietnam War was envisioned and led by U.S Army combat nurse Captain Diane Carlson Evans. This tribute to over 265,000 woman who served in the Armed Forces of the United States during the Vietnam War, including 10,000 woman – the majority military nurses – who served in the Vietnam theater was placed on the National Mall close to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1993. The bronze study above was provided by a generous anonymous donor with the assistance of the Walter Reed Society.
