The AHIMA Foundation 2024 Veteran Scholarship application opened March 1st and closes May 31st.

Who is eligible for the Veteran Scholarship?

The AHIMA Foundation offers a Veteran Scholarship for AHIMA members pursing an Associates, Bachelors, bachelor’s Certificate, and master’s degree in the HI/HIM fields. More information on this year’s program and a link to apply can be found on the AHIMA Foundation website.

What is the review process?

After the application closes on May 31st, the review process will begin June 3rd and end July 31st

When will recipients be notified?

The 2024 AHIMA Foundation Scholarship recipients are expected to be announced by August 15th. A list of the 2023 recipients can be found here.

Veteran Scholarship Application

The online application process will involve answering several questions, uploading your transcriptions, requesting recommendations letters, and answering essay questions, all of which must be completed within the system by the deadline. Applications are screened for completeness and forwarded to the AHIMA Foundation Scholarship Review Committee for review and ranking. Applications are scored using a point system. The committee rates applications based on the following criteria:

  • Cumulative Grade Point Average
  • Commitment to the HIM, HIT or HI Profession
  • Volunteer Experience, Essay Questions, High Level of Achievements and Academic Success
  • Quality and Relevance of References
  • Clarity and Completeness of sentences with proper use of grammar.

Sponsored by the Walter Reed Society. The program is designed to provide scholarships for veteran military service members from the U.S. armed forces and spouses of veteran service members, including active-duty military, retirees, veterans, wounded warriors, and surviving spouses.

Minimum eligibility requirements include:

  • Current member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
    • *NEW* Walter Reed Society will sponsor the cost of AHIMA student memberships for interested veterans and spouses of veterans. Email info@ahimafoundation.org for more information about this opportunity!
  • Currently enrolled into a health information program accredited by CAHIIM in the United States
  • Achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0)
  • Must have at least one full-time semester or credit equivalency remaining to complete their educational program after the scholarship award date (after September 30th, 2024)
  • Submit a completed online application (including all its components)
  • Have not been awarded any AHIMA Foundation scholarship for the academic degree being sought through this application.
