Walter Reed Society Thanks the Kent Island American Legion Post 278

Randolph initiated the annual Wounded Warriors Weekend at the KI Legion five years ago. She accepted the award on behalf of the KI Legion and the KI Fisherman's Club that has co-hosted the event. The award was presented during the shrimp feast Saturday evening, April 20, 2013, at the Legion. 

Kent Island American Legion Post 278 Donates $28,000 to the Walter Reed Society

Kent Island American Legion Post 278, Post Commander Ed Tolson, held two fundraisers during which they collected $28,000 for the Walter Reed Society.

MarineParents Acknowledges Walter Reed Society

MarineParents.com, Inc. was founded in January 2003 in response to parents' needs to find information and to Connect & Share® with one another during deployments. The organization’s mission has expanded to provide free services, connections, and outreach for Marines and to support and educate Marine families.

MarineParents recently provided an award to the Walter Reed Society to acknowledge the Society's support of its Purple Heart Family Support outreach to patients, families, and staff at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Critical Care Unit. MarineParents brings in meals for family members, who do not wish to leave their loved one's bedside, and staff every other Sunday. The Walter Reed Society provides funds to support this effort as well as to support baby showers for expectant mothers, whose spouses are recovering at the hospital.

Walter Reed Society Supports Community Reintegration for Our Wounded Warriors

Since 2009, Helping Hometown Heroes has assisted recuperating military men and women who are adjusting from their military lives to civilian life. They are dedicated to helping our Wounded Warriors and veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with rehabilitation, transportation, and support for their families.

For the last year, the Walter Reed Society has supported the efforts of Helping Hometown Heroes to provide a monthly dinner for patients and families residing at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center during their treatment and rehabilitation. The dinners are held at the American Legion Post 41 in Silver Spring, MD. These social opportunities allow Wounded Warriors and their families a chance to leave the hospital campus for recreation and entertainment each month.

Walter Reed Society Provides High-Tech Help to Wounded Warriors

The Walter Reed Society donated 20 iPads™ in March 2012 to Assistive Technology at WRNMMC for Warriors needing support with memory and organization.  The iPads™ are used for scheduling appointments, providing medication reminders, organizing activities of daily living and therapeutic recreation. Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen are the beneficiaries of this program supported by Walter Reed Society donors.
